Dame Julie Walters has urged the Government to maintain its promise on dementia analysis funding.

The Paddington star, 71, mentioned “funding promised by Government is extra crucial now than it ever has been”.

She backed a petition, signed by greater than 43,000 individuals, calling on the Government to ship on its election promise to double funding for dementia analysis.

The Government pledged in 2019 to double funding for dementia analysis as a part of a “moonshot” effort to discover a treatment.

But no additional particulars have been given about how or when the funding will be made accessible, Alzheimer’s Research UK says.

Dame Julie, whose grandmother died with vascular dementia, mentioned: “As somebody who witnessed the results of dementia rising up, I’m proud to be standing with the tens of hundreds of people who find themselves calling on Government to ship on its election promise to double funding into researching the situation.
