Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 18) — More than three years after ending peace talks with communist rebels, President Rodrigo Duterte is blaming Communist Party of the Philippines founding chairman Jose Maria Sison’s supposed well being situation for the breakdown.

In a speech throughout a gathering of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict in Tacloban City on Thursday, Duterte recalled his November 2017 determination to formally terminate negotiations with the National Democratic Front of the Philippines. The group represents the CPP and its armed wing, the New People’s Army, in talks with the federal government.

Meanwhile, Duterte has said there will be no more peace talks, even ceasefire with the communist group for the remainder of his time period. The govt Anti-Terrorism Council has additionally designated the CPP and the NPA as terrorist organizations pending courtroom proscription.

The Duterte administration is now banking on elevated navy operations and its multibillion-peso Barangay Development Program to clear villages of “NPA affect.”
