Nursing home virus cases stay stable | News, Sports, Jobs

The number of COVID-19 cases at Mahoning County nursing homes and assisted living facilities remained nearly unchanged this week, rising by one to 33 cases.

Staff cases rose from 26 to 28 while patient cases dropped from six to five. Twenty-four facilities still have cases this week, up from 22 last week.

Trumbull County facilities, meanwhile, continue to have just one staff case. In Columbiana County, one facility continues to have two patient cases and another continues to have one staff case, according to Ohio Department of Health data.

Across the state, staff cases also rose slightly this week — from 423 last week to 438 this week. Patient cases dropped from 614 to 570.

COVID-19 nursing home deaths rose by two this week in Mahoning County — from 269 to 271. Deaths rose by one in Trumbull County this week– from 148 to 149. And the number of deaths in Columbiana County remained the same at 78.

Staff cases at the Ohio State Penitentiary in Youngstown rose from six to eight this week, and inmate cases rose from two to three. The numbers also rose last week. The eight staff members is the second-highest number in the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction system.

The number of virus cases at the private Northeastern Ohio Correctional Center in Youngstown did not change this week. Staff cases remained at two and inmate cases remained at zero.

Likewise, cases at the Trumbull Correctional Institution in Leavittsburg remained the same at one staff case and zero inmate cases.

In all of Ohio’s prisons, there are 58 staff cases and 49 inmate cases this week. The number of staff cases dropped by one. The number of inmate cases rose by 11.
