Celebrate Easter with an in-person Easter egg hunt

Easter is right around the corner, and if you’re looking for an excuse to get out of the house while still following public health guidelines, the Entomica Insectarium is presenting an Easter egg hunt activity at the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre that should be fun for all ages. The activity will be held on Friday, April 2 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

The activity will have live animals, including chicks, goats and bunnies. Due to COVID-19, children will not be allowed to handle the animals, but they can still be observed. 

“The kids will be able to explore around the Bushplane museum to search for Easter eggs. We also have a special ‘unscramble the word’ activity that they can do throughout the egg hunt,” said Drake Martin from Entomica Insectarium. 

The Entomica Insectarium asks that all attendees sign in upon arrival, wear a face mask, wash and sanitize hands frequently, and maintain adequate physical distancing. There will be a limited capacity at any given time, and this notice will be posted at the door and maintained by staff. 

Individually wrapped chocolate treat bags will be distributed to children upon arrival as well, while supplies last. Admission for the Easter egg hunt will be by donation. 

“We’re excited to host something that families can do in the Sault. Since there hasn’t been a lot going on this year, it will be nice to have an activity for everyone to do,” Martin said. 

Despite the province slowly reopening and the Algoma region sitting in the yellow zone, Saultites are still encouraged to continue following COVID-19 guidelines and stay home as much as possible. In fact, many of us are staying inside and online now more than ever.

Grand Opening of Northern Respiratory SSM

April 1

Northern Respiratory is a locally owned respiratory home care service provider that specializes in home oxygen, airway management and continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) products and services. They will be hosting their grand opening of their Sault Ste. Marie location virtually via Facebook Live on Thursday, April 1 at 2 p.m. Event-goers will have the opportunity to meet the team, participate in giveaways, special promotions and more. 

Rainbow Camp Celebrates Camp Supporter Alan Gotlib’s 40-Year Coming Out Journey with Stories and Live Musical Performances 

April 2

Join Alan Gotlib in celebrating the 40th anniversary of his coming out with this live virtual event in support of Rainbow Camp, Welcome Friend Association’s camp for young people who identify as 2SLGBTQ+. Welcome Friend Association is based in Thessalon, and provides support to those impacted by gender and sexual issues.

The livestream event will be held on Friday, April 2 from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., and will feature Gotlib talking about his personal journey, along with musical performances by performers from Toronto and as far away as London, England. 

“I realized that Good Friday in 2021 will be the 40th anniversary of my initial coming out and decided to celebrate with a concert and fundraiser for Rainbow Camp,” said Gotlib, a Jewish gay man and child of Holocaust survivors from Poland. “It’s been quite a journey and when I look at the fear with which I regarded coming out in my early twenties, I am so grateful to be who I am today with all the incredible people who were there along the way.” 

There is no cost to attend the event, but participants can choose to make a donation to Rainbow Camp. To join the celebration, visit the Rainbow Camp YouTube channel. 

Virtual Open House at Sault College

April 8

Sault College will be hosting a virtual open house on Thursday, April 8 at 6 p.m. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet faculty, learn about services, get questions answered and explore the campus. Additionally during the virtual open house, you can enter for a chance to win $2,500 towards your tuition. 

2021 Canadian Folk Music Awards 

April 10-11

The 2021 Canadian Folk Music Awards (CFMA) will be held virtually this year over the weekend of April 10 and 11. The show will be streamed via folkawards.ca and on the CFMA Facebook page and YouTube channel.
